See Ya Real Soon...

Our typical Florida vacations usually end in the mid afternoon, often at Downtown Disney/Disney Springs, sometimes after a short trip to finish things up at a park or parks.  Today was not typical...

Since Disney Quest is closing... forever... we really wanted to get back there, because the only time we had ever visited was in 2008, and Disney Quest is not stroller/baby friendly at all, so it was difficult, to say the least.

We started out the day with lunch at T-Rex and then our Disney Springs shopping, which was very fun/productive.

My best buy of the trip was a Lego photo frame
featuring this sea serpent... $0.98

I am eventually going to make a complete post about what I thought of all of the dining options, how the dining plan worked for us this time around, etc.  However, I will give a little preview here and say that we had a ridiculous number of snack credits left as well as some counter service credits that we simply could not use up.  Had we not had to alter several of our days due to illness, we would have used all of our credits, but because things got a little crazy, we ended up with 47 snack credits to spare.

This is just a sampling of what we brought home:

Disney Quest, itself, ended up being something of a disappointment, and I can see that it really is time for it to close.  It is essentially the technological dream of the 90s.  And I am simply too old for simulators.  When the magic carpets make you sick, it's time to throw in the towel.  I'm really glad we went, though, because I think it's the kind of thing where if we hadn't gone we would always be wishing we had, wondering what we missed, etc.

We left Disney Springs at 9:15pm, which is far too late any way you look at it.  We only made it as far as Valdosta, and that was really pushing it, because I could not keep my eyes open, so Phil had to drive without any intelligible conversation, and it's safe to say that we are both too tired for that at this point.  Tomorrow will be a very long travel day.

What Matters Most...

It's been one of those seasons in life where it is easy to lose track of what really matters.  I don't think kids are all that sold on the idea that summer vacation is a good time for cleaning the house.  Today, I admit that we got a lot of productive things done around here, but at some point I called it off and sat down to play some Super Mario Bros. Wii with Seth.

About two hours later we had collected a voluminous amount of star coins, found a good place to save, and called it quits.  I was met by the stares of Grace, Caleb, and Ian who declared, "Mom...  you never gave us a turn!"  Bwahahahaha...  I cannot remember the last time I got that wrapped up in a video game!  At any rate, Seth and I had a blast together, and I wouldn't trade that time with him for anything, even if it was just us sitting together on the couch, and even if my younger children now think I'm a controller hog.  Parents...  stop what you're doing long enough to enjoy what your kids are doing!  Seriously...  the laundry can wait!

As a side note, the truth is the other kids just knock us off cliffs and stuff, anyway, so I guess it turned out alright.  Maybe we'll let them play next time... maybe...

Today Didn’t Go Exactly As Planned…

Then again, few days do…

I’m not sure exactly how I expected our last real day of Christmas vacation to go.  I think I had some convoluted idea that I might actually get some things done that I wanted to get done.  I’m not bitter or anything.  I actually had a lot of fun today, and it probably panned out exactly how it should have.

My list of accomplishments includes:

  • Watching the Strawberry Shortcake movie with Miah…  (and the four other children who showed up and pretended not to watch).
  • Cleaning about ¼ of the national disaster area we call Grace’s room…
  • And updating the Miis… which was really, really important, because Wii Fit is super mean, and Grace had grown 8 inches since we last updated…  Miah is irritated that we gave her hair and wants to know where her hat went.  I have no idea why Grace is suntanned.  But here’s my pic. of the day:

And just so you know, this might be the kind of thing that ends up on this blog more often than not, this year…  It’s all good…
