Is it December yet? Hehehe...

Friday, 27 October 2006

  • Before you read this post...  Is anyone else having trouble with xanga not allowing apostrophes?  What a pain.  This post will be contractionless...

Yesterday... ahhh... signigificant date.   If I knew, five years ago, what I know now...  I still would have said, "yes".

Have been thinking lately of some things I miss...  Right now these top the list:
         "So...  How did it go?"
Gas station stops for fudge brownies and cherry 7Up
         Driving the kids to sleep

    In news this morning...

Our Pumpkin Patch trip was cancelled, and the kids were really dissapointed, so we are having a "Halloween Party" this afternoon, instead!  We are going to paint pumpkins (I am sick of being the ONLY one in this family who is willing to remove pumpkin goop year after year), Color Halloween pictures, and eat Halloween fruit snacks.  We were going to watch "Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin", but I could not find it.  There may still be hope that "Daddy" will find it and bring it home after work!  Come back later for pics.

I woke up with a monster nosebleed (pregnancy induced, I am sure).  Unfortunately, I sucked some of the blood up, before I realized it, and now I will probably be spitting blood for the next hour.  Oh... gross...

The Tigers are now behind in the series 3-1.  So, we need a seven game series and three wins in a row!  That is not impossible with our awesome starting pitching... assuming they come with their best stuff (and without pine tar... hehehe).  However, we do need the bats to come alive, and our bullpen is scary, as of late...

I am getting ready to watch Curious George and Clifford now.  I hope this is a laid back day!  I could use one.

  • I may begin the remainder of my entries until the baby is born with, "Is it December yet?"

Wow...  did I ever get grilled today.  Seth is suddenly extremely interested in how the baby is going to get out.  I am thankful that he is not too interested yet in how the baby got in.  I explained in the least graphic way possible, and he seemed OK with that.  Grace, however, informed me that she is NEVER going to have a baby.  Then Seth wondered, "Does it hurt?"  I was glad that my labor and delivery with him were extrememly easy, because I was able to truthfully tell him that it hardly hurt at all when he was born.  Thankfully, again, he didn't ask about Caleb's birth.

Then the subject changed, and the kids went on to discuss all the names they like for the baby.  They are hilarious!

I have to share the conversation of yesterday, as well:
Grace (nearly panicked): "Mommy, why are you passing Wal-Mart"
Me: "Because we don't need to go there."
Grace (extrememly irritated): "But I want to go there!"

I guess that's what I get for dragging her to Wal-Mart three times in a week...

Of all the stupid things...

They are not going to appeal my parking ticket, and they are now charging me $25.00 instead of $20.00, presumably, because it has been more than 72 hours since I received the ticket.  I guess it was pretty convenient for them to delay their response to my appeal, huh?

For future reference, I could have parked in a delivery area, on the sidewalk, in a crosswalk, on a curb, at an expired meter, or in the grass for only $15.00.

Guess you gotta pay the security guards to party in the lot somehow.

  • It was a bad night in Detroit...

And, then, it was a good night in Detroit...  until Todd Jones gave us all heart attacks, but... alas... he got out of the mess he made...

And now there is no game to watch tonight...  Maybe we can name the baby... hehehe...

I found encouragement in the funniest pace today... Lamentations...

Not that the Bible, itself, isn't a good place to find encouragement, but Lamentations... come on... give me a break!  Sure enough, though, there is was... In chapter 3...

"God proves to be good to the man who passionately waits,
to the woman who diligently seeks.
It's a good thing to quietly hope,
quietly hope for help from God.
It's a good thing when you're young
to stick it out in hard times.

When life is heavy and hard to take,
go off by yourself.  Enter the silence.
Bow in prayer.  Don't ask questions:
Wait for hope to appear.
Don't run from trouble.  Take it full face.
The "worst" is never the worst.

Why?  Because the Master won't ever walk out and fail to return." (TM)

So... usually this kind of thing would find it's way to my other blog, and it might still... but I wanted to put it here tonight.

In other news...  Three thumbs up to Phil, who has acted as "Super Dad" this week...

And Seth, too...  He played with Caleb for a very long time today, and I got some much needed rest... And they didn't even make a huge mess!

And since I can hardly make it through a post... let alone a day... without some ridiculous story...  Phil and I were working on some things today and just relaxing, when suddenly it felt very strange, because we almost never have a day like that.  Thankfully, around 1:03, Phil realized that we were only acting on wishful thinking, and we did, indeed, have a commitment that we had to run to...  And, just in time, we remembered Seth's soccer game!  I cannot belive I went out in public looking like I did, but the game was at 1:30...  I didn't have a whole lot of time to work with!

I have to sign off now, because the pre-game for the World Series is about to start...  GO TIGERS!!!  Somebody pinch me and tell me this isn't just wishful thinking, too...

Here's my 5-point message, notably shorter & hopefully more interesting & inspiring than the 3-point variety found...well, you know.......

    1.) Thanks.

2.) That was about as poor of a game as they could have played. Hopefully it is out of there system, because now we need a win in the worst way.

3.) I like Lamentations. Always have. It may not always be what you want, but always what you need. God is like that, too.

4.) WHY am I still up? Yeesh.......

    5.) P.S. - Hello all you xanga-ites!

  • I guess it was bound to happen... someday...

I have now been a licensed driver for a little over 11 years...  And tonite, I got my first ticket...

It is a parking ticket... and to be quite honest, I am furious...

I had to go take an exam for one of my classes (which is ridiculous in itself... what do these people think on-line education is supposed to be...)  So, I went to the campus, parked my car, and went in the building.  I used all of 45 minutes of my alloted hour and a half to take the exam, came back out to the parking lot, noticed a couple of "rent-a-cops" messing around, found my car (which wasn't hard since the lot was not even half full), unlocked the door, got in, and began to drive away...

And then I saw it...  Something yellow stuck under my wiper blade...  And I wondered what it was, so I stopped the car, got out, and removed it.  When I saw what it was, I wasn't too happy.  You know, it could have been an invitation to a Tupperware party or something...  anyhow, since the two... ahem... "security guards" were still goofing off in the lot, I turned around and headed back that way.  I parked my car right in front of them, got out, waddled toward them (you'd think they'd have some compassion on a hugely pregnant woman), and asked if they'd placed the offensive thing on my car!

They had.  So, I explained that I am an on-line student, that I am pretty sure I paid for a parking permit when I registered, and that I never received one.  They informed me that there are parking meters and a visitor's parking lot.  I was feeling rather annoyed at this point, but I asked them where, exactly, the visitor's parking lot was.  They pointed me toward it and seemed rather annoyed themselves.  I was, after all, interupting their party in the parking lot (at the metered spaces I might add... which I doubt they paid for...)  In the end, they said I could appeal the citation on-line.  I walked around my car...  muttered, "this is retarded"...  and proceeded to get back in and drive home.

I filled out the form right away, and I am thinking they'd better appeal this, because that lot is not marked.  If you need a permit to park there, they could at least post a sign...

In funnier news, here's the quote of the day, from Seth, "Mommy, you're so big I would trade you for three elephants!"  Uh... thanks?

Tuesday, 17 October 2006

  • Well...   I know I'm not posting enough when both Seth and Grace's birthdays fit on the same screen.  However, last week was CRAZY!    Four trips to the doctor, three trips to Wal-Mart, three swimming classes, two gymnastics classes, several Tiger's games, a soccer game, a house to clean, a birthday, a portrait sitting, and a birthday party... and I was ready for Sunday night, let me tell ya...

Now, here's the long version of the story...  It all began with Monday morning...

Actually, truth told, Monday was normal... hehehe... As if we ever have a "normal" day!   Just a whole bunch of school for the kids and a trip to the Y to swim and play.  It was "safety week", so the kids pretty much floated around in life jackets the whole time.  Seth decided to swallow half of the deep end of the pool, which wasn't too much fun for him or mom, but other than that it was uneventful.

Tuesday began the never ending trips to the doctor, but by Tuesday afternoon, we were back in the swing of things...  just in time to fly through the school day and get Grace ready for gymnastics.  Afterward, I did some shopping at Wal-Mart, because there were a few things I had to pick up...

Wednesday I had my regularly scheduled OB appointment.  Nearly as soon as I walked through the door I realized that I hadn't remembered to drink the sugar drink for my glucose test.  So...  I muttered an explicative... hehehe...  No, I don't do that.  Actually, I said, "Oh, crud!"  I went on to explain to the receptionist... and then to the nurse... that I am an idiot, and they said I could come back later in the week to do the test!  No one seemed to want to deny the fact that I am an idiot, though...  Stopped for Little Caesars... and went on home to fly through another school day.

So...  Thursday I dropped Phil off for an orientation thing, and then I went back to the OB... wishing I could throw up all the way (those sugar drinks are awful)... with all three kids in tow.  When I walked through the door this time, I'm sure the receptionist thought I was nuts, because I had the whole gang trailing me.  So, the kids watched them draw Mommy's blood... in horror I might add... with their ears covered!  I guess they thought I was going to scream... which I didn't... even though I wanted to.   We couldn't stop for pizza this time, because it was too early in the morning, so we went to Wal-Mart... again... and shopped for Grace's party food.  Then we picked Phil up, went home, and guess what... flew through yet another day of homeschooling bliss.  Of course, that was just in time for Grace and me to rush off to gymnastics class #2.  Her class was hilarious, especially because her instructor didn't recognize her.  Grace is convinced that this is because she was wearing her purple leotard, instead of her black one...  After class, Grace and I realized that even after two trips to Wal-Mart in three days, we still didn't have what we needed, so we took trip #3.

Friday, I woke up nearly elated that we had decided to take the day off of school in honor of Grace's 5th birthday!  I cannot believe that my baby girl is five!  We went to have her pictures taken, which took WAY longer than it should have, but they will be cute when they come back!  Then we had lunch at McDs... one with a "Play-D-Place" of course, and headed back home to meet Grandma and Grandpa.  We did the present thing, and then hurried to get the Tiger's game on.  Actually, I only saw the game from the 8th inning on, because I was too busy tearing My Little Ponies out of their packaging and trying to figure out how to make the magic castle open right (which, in the end, Phil had to do for me...  I didn't realize it needed batteries).
Edit: Here are grace's Birthday Pics:
Saturday was Seth's second soccer game, so we all headed out in the freezing cold to watch him play.  Of course, it was picture day, too, so we will have plenty of pictures of wind blown kids in jackets!  Here's my "Super Goalie"... and a couple of Freezing fans:
After the game, we came home and prepared for the birthday party...  Which was great.  Actually, I think the adults may have had more fun than the kids... especially with the color pages and temporary tatoos.  Grace, the ever social one, had a blast.  She loves having friends!  Here's Grace with her Rainbow Cake:
As soon as the last guest departed, we turned on the TV again!  It's funny, because we try not to watch too much, but we are Tiger's obsessed right now.  Unfortunately, the game started a lot earlier than we thought it was scheduled for, so we missed most of it.  However, we did not miss the best part!  Go Tigers...  I can't believe we are going to the World Series!!!
When we finally headed off to bed, Caleb was sick... with a temp. of 102, so I took him to the ER a little before midnight (and, believe me, they hurried to get him registered before midnight... I'm thinking they make more money that way...)  He is fine now, and actually, he was fine then.  It is the first time I have ever taken a kid to the ER and had them look at me like I was crazy, because clearly he just had the sniffles...  Oh well...
Sunday I baked Zucchini bread... uh... 16 loaves of it to be exact!  You probably don't want to ask, but if you like Zucchini bread, I wouldn't mind sharing...

And yesterday was basically business as usual... well... minus the fact that Grace went to play at a friend's house by herself for the first time (a whole lot harder on mom than on Grace), and that I walked to the Y from my doctor appt., because I could... and I need the exercise...

And now it's Tuesday morning.  And now I need to do some school with the kiddos.  And then I need to gear up for gymnastics again.  And I'm wondering if this week isn't going to be just as crazy!

    Lisa

P.S.  I had a ton of awesome pics. to put in this post.  Unfortunately, xanga is being stupid, this morning, and I don't have all day to deal with it.  Check back later, because I might revise this with the pictures when I get a chance.  *Edit*  Obviously, I finally got the pics. in... yeah!

P.P.S. In all of that, I forgot to mention that we rearranged the whole house in preparation for baby.  I may never touch a piece of furniture again... but it does look nice!  L.

  • Ah... just a couple more days and I can safely exit my house without first donning a parachute and shouting, "geronimo"...  Yeah... they're finally starting to lay the concrete...
After "watching" the last game of the regular season, I was thinking about how there were a few more things I should have said to Mike Illitch when I had the chance...
    But for tonite... GO TIGERS...
